One 60-day voyage through the Land Down Under has been cancelled following the death of an elderly woman who was left behind by the ship on a isolated tropical isle.

The passenger had been hiking on the tropical location with other travelers from the vessel, but parted ways from the party for a rest. The ship sailed away leaving her and went back later that day after the ship staff became aware the lady was missing.

A major hunt found her body the next day.

Authorities are investigating the event, together with police and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the voyage organizer announced that passengers and crew on the vessel were informed that the continuation of the journey had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and prior engine troubles".

In a statement, he further stated that passengers would be provided a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also issued an updated announcement, and said they had "provided a notice to the Captain" prohibiting any further travelers from boarding the ship.

The representative said that they would visit the liner in the port city upon its coming back.

Timeline of Events

The liner originally sailed from the Australian port on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the moment of the elderly woman's demise. The tropical location was the initial destination on the itinerary.

Passengers on the ship - who usually pay substantial amounts of money to join the expedition - were ferried there for a day trip with the choice of trekking or underwater exploration.

Family Statement

The child of the elderly passenger said that her family was "stunned and grieved that the ship left Lizard Island after an organised excursion without my mum".

Via her announcement, she portrayed her parent as an "active 80-year-old" who was a participant of a bushwalking organization.

"Based on limited facts we have been told, it seems that there was a failure of responsibility and common sense," she mentioned.

She further stated that she hoped the investigation would be able to identify what "the operator should have done that might have saved Mum's life".

"According to reports from the investigators that it was a very hot period, and mum fell ill on the hill climb," she revealed.

"Officials suggested her to head down, without accompaniment. Then the boat left, apparently without conducting a passenger count.

"At some stage in that process, or not long after, she died, by herself."

Company Response

Via official communication, the Chief Executive verified that the operator was "working closely with officials to support their investigation".

He mentioned that the firm was "extremely apologetic that this has occurred" and had extended its full support to the relatives.

Cruise Industry Procedures

The vessel accommodates up to one hundred twenty guests with 46 personnel, according to official data. It was specifically designed to reach isolated areas of the nation's shoreline and is fitted with "auxiliary vessels" - compact vessels used to ferry travelers on land visits.

Occurrences such as this are uncommon, and cruise ships have procedures to record which passengers are embarking or disembarking, according to travel authorities.

"Leaving covertly or [back] onboard just isn't an option," an authority remarked.

Shipping companies regard these processes with great importance and have "clever tech in place to avoid such events from taking place," the authority continued.

"This seems to be most likely a stunning - and sad - single occurrence."
